Information

Since I work from a lot of different computers, this is more of a "bookmark" reference page for me.  It is not comprehensive, there are thousands of woodworking web sites out there.  This is a list of resources I have collected and keep here so I can access them from anywhere.

www.sawmillcreek.org
This is a web discussion board comprised of woodworking enthusiasts from around the world.  One of the more active and older woodworking discussion boards out there, and probably the nicest most helpful people as well

www.woodworkingtalk.com
Another web discussion board.  Not as active as Sawmill Creek, but still some good resources.

Understanding Wood Finishing  (Amazon link)
Bob Flexner wrote what many consider to be the "Bible" of wood finishing.  This book is a great place to start if you are learning about finishes.  It is also a great reference resource for veterans that have forgotten more than I have learned.

www.finewoodworking.com
A Taunton Press web site that compliments the Fine Woodworking magazine.  Lots a good info available on this site.

www.djmarks.com
Not a whole lot of information here, but plans and stuff are available.  I had the "I'd like to get into woodworking" thoughts for a while, it was watching David Marks on DIY that finally inspired me to get off my arss and do something.

www.woodmagazine.com
Another online magazine filled with useful information

www.woodstore.net
Plans and information

www.amazon.com
Believe it or not, Amazon has a LOT of woodworking stuff... tools, books, video's, etc.  They have pretty competitive pricing too.  If you purchase from Amazon using a link from Sawmill Creek, some proceeds from the sale help support that site

www.americanfurnituredsgn.com
Woodworking plans.  I have not gotten any plans from them yet, but I am considering some of the Arts and Crafts furniture plans

www.woodweb.com
Knowledgebase, links to forums, tool info, etc.

thewoodwhisperer.com
Web site from FWW contributing editor Marc Spagnuolo

The Hobbit House Glossary
This guy has put together a huge glossary of terms.  Still a work in progress, but it is huge as it is today

Tools and Supplies

www.rockler.com
Rockler has a lot of great stuff.

www.woodcraft.com
Very similar to Rockler, but without their own branded tools.

www.leevalley.com
What more be said?

www.traditionalwoodworker.com
I've not gotten anything from these folks, but they were kind enough to send me a catalog the other day... seemed like a nice product line

www.highlandwoodworking.com
Very nice high end woodworking tools.  This is where I bought my Wood Slicer band saw blade

www.grizzly.com
I've got a few of their machines, and they are very popular.  American company, tools made in China.  Probably considered to be at the top of the quality heap for machines coming from China.

www.suffolkmachinery.com
Fine band saw blades (Timber Wolf).  Give them a call to pick the best blade for your use.

www.eagleamerica.com
They carry a lot of the same stuff as the rest, but they also have their own line of "cheap" and "cheaper" router bits.  While everyone will advocate getting the best, sometimes you just need to suck it up and get what you can

www.wihatools.com
Not related to woodworking at all, but noteworthy all the same.  These guys make good stuff.  I've got a variety of the Torx tools and they are great.

www.craftsman.com
Ummm Helllooo   .... OK, OK, maybe not the same brand reliability as days gone by, but they still have good stuff.  Hopefully if Sears ever closes their doors, there will still be the Craftsman store

www.justclamps.com
just discovered this site recently.  Apparently a subsidiary of Peachtree.  I've not gotten anything from them.

www.earlex.com
I have the hv3000.  It is marketed as a home/hobby HVLP sprayer, so I doubt hardcore professional wood finishers would like this.  I think it is a great entry level unit.  I'm not familiar with other sprayers, other than their price.  You will be hard pressed to beat this unit for its price.  The HV5000 has gotten a bit more attention and has had very positive reviews.  For its price, I doubt it can be beat either.

www.targetcoatings.com
Water based solutions.  If you take a look at the computer desk I did, you will see the EM6000 water based Lacquer, in matte.  Sprayed with the Earlex mentioned above.  Takes some getting used to, doesn't provide the warm color typically found from using oil based film finishes, but it is much better for the environment and easy to clean up.

www.landarknw.com
As of this writing, I have not used this product (9-16-2010).  BUT!! I am so intrigued, that I felt it just needed to be included.  I'm about to order their sample package to check it out.

www.vandykes.com
I was searching for some hardware and this place was suggested.  They had exactly what I needed, where my other "go to" sources didn't... so, while I haven't purchased anything yet, they get a mention just for having what I was looking for.

www.shellac.net
One stop shopping for all your shellac needs
