The "Computer Desk" Project
After seeing the Dining Table I did, a friend asked if I would build a computer desk for him. I wasn't really up for trying a full blown desk, particularly for someone else, but after discussing exactly what he was looking for, I decided to take on the task.
Like the Dining Table, this desk was done in Alder.
This particular Alder was more white in color, so I used
a honey amber Transtint dye to give it color.
After the dye, I used boiled linseed oil, dewaxed
shellac as a barrier, then water based lacquer.
This was my first venture into lacquer, and as it turns
out, my first venture into using a sprayer.
Payment for this project came in the form of a HVLP
sprayer (I love bartering :) )

Various Other Picture...
Travis testing the height after
mounting the first section
We had tabs welded to the brackets to all support for
two sections and an elongated hole in each tab for
mounting (the elongation was to account for any seasonal
wood movement)
Grommet holes for wires (purchased from Rockler)
Hardware used to secure the
sections together (purchased from Rockler)
Small shelf underneath for his
external hard drive and other network devices
Some pictures taken during the project
Clamping up part of the corner section
Still working on the corner section
I did the corner in three pieces, then post those three
together. I find it difficult in my shop to work
with larger pieces like this and end up doing things on
the floor
One of the wings (again, working on the floor)
Wing section - glued up, trimmed, and rough sanded
Preparing for the "Breadboard End"
Laying the sections out, together, for the first time...
and preparing to layout the curve to cut
Testing the fit of the fastening system
Here is a short video I did while working on this project. This is taking rough sawn lumber and turning into stock I used for putting the desk together
